Alternative Book Arts For Teens

Ages: 14-18

Beginner Level. No experience required. 

 Spend a day exploring alternative processes and natural materials for book making. Learn to recycle, reuse, and follow the seasons to create book structures with repurposed material and nature’s offerings. Students will learn how to make and bind your own book while learning about different types of paper and mark-making. We will learn about book structures, paper cutting and folding, bookbinding, tools, vocabulary and supply resources. Other topics we’ll talk about include using surface design and paper techniques such as Joomchi, handmade paper, natural dyes, paste paper, and cyanotype. Each student will leave with their own original book creation.  

There will be a 30-minute lunch break. Bring a lunch or explore local dining options.   

All materials are included in the Materials Kit Fee of $15 PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop.  

*Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

Catherine Cross Tsintzos is an artist who uses her knowledge and experience with her practice to create within the realms of both interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary components for outcomes that focus on environmental and social issues, traditional fine craft and sustainability. She has a clear purpose in building and crossing bridges among the arts with a deep focus and balance between artistic practice, teaching, activism and invitation for participation.
