Honeysuckle Ring Basket

Ages: Intergenerational (16 and up)

All levels are welcome. No experience required.

Students Please Bring:

  • Note taking materials.
  • Apron or work clothes that can get dirty.
  • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

Honeysuckle, a beautiful and sweet-smelling vine with native and non-native varieties, is also a useful material for basketry. Learn to process the woody vines and weave a small ring basket. Experienced basket weavers can adapt this material to your existing techniques, and novices will learn a simple twined base method.

Materials Fees: All materials are included with a $25 PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

About Instructor: Angela Eastman is an artist and teacher residing in Hillsborough, North Carolina. She holds an MFA in Sculpture from Cranbrook Academy of Art and completed the Core Fellowship program at Penland School of Craft and has participated in residencies including the 2023 Artist-in-Residence at Olive’s Porch. In addition to sculptural work, Angela creates jewelry, baskets, furniture, and other home goods through her design business Flag Mountain Studio. Angela also teaches art workshops to adults and youth. She is an advocate for craft education as a vital component of understanding the material world we live in.
