Tuition: $85.00

Ages: Adults (18 and up)

All levels are welcome. No experience required.

Students Please Bring:

  • Paper: Bring a sheet of cold press paper 140 (Can be found in Supply Room at Olive’s Porch)
  • Paint Brushes (Can be found in Supply Room at Olive’s Porch-Windsor Newton Cotman Watercolor Brushes, those with experience can bring equivalent brushes of another brand):
    • Designer Brush #4 or a Small Rigger Brush,
    • Large Round Brush #10
    • 6” round brush #6
    •  ½” flat brush.
  • Windsor Newton Professional Watercolor Paints (Can be found in Supply Room at Olive’s Porch):
    • Alizarine Crimson, Cadmium-Free Red, Cadmium-Free Lemon, Cadmium-Free Yellow Pale, Cobalt Blue, Burnt Sienna, Paynes Grey, Ultramarine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Veridian Green, Hooker’s Green
  • You could substitute or also bring Aurelian Yellow, Quinacridone Rose, Antwerp Blue
  • Thin Masking Tape
  • Kneaded Eraser,
  • Painter’s Palette-
    • Compact linked above has a rubber gasket and mixing tray good for plein air or classroom and has enough wells to carry the number of paints needed for this workshop.
  • Note taking materials.
  • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

Description: Join me for a day of experimenting with Texture and color to create your own beautiful work of art. We will paint skies, mountains and trees using a variety of techniques. This workshop is open to all experience levels. We will be studying wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry watercolor techniques, blending colors, and composition. We will use all of these elements to make some beautiful landscapes!

Those with experience are encouraged to bring the paints and brushes they already have and can purchase what is additionally needed for the workshop.

There will be a 1-hour lunch break. Bring a sack lunch or explore local dining options.

Instructor provided materials are included with an estimated $0 FEE PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

About Instructor: Suzanne DesLauriers has been a working artist for over thirty years. She was the 1996 Western North Carolina Creative Teacher of the Year and the 1999-2000 North Carolina Secondary Art Teacher of the Year. Suzy is a signature member of the Southern Appalachian Artists Guild and of the Southern Watercolor Society and the Southeastern Pastel Society. She has taught and exhibited her work in the Carolinas, Maine, Florida, Georgia, and Tennessee. She believes in unlocking the artist within each of us.
