Willow Market Basket

Adult (18+)

All levels are welcome. No experience required, just some hand strength.

 Spend a weekend weaving with willow and learn to create a rib-style, oval market basket with woven handles. Students will use several varieties of locally and sustainably sourced and harvested willow. We will also learn to work with frozen, reconstituted, and fresh willow so that new basket makers get experience working with variations in materials. Discussions will also include how to grow and harvest your own willow.

There will be a 30-minute lunch break. Bring a lunch or explore local dining options.   

All materials are included with a $125 PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop.

About Mark Hendry:     

Mark Hendry is a full-time artisan specializing in historic handcraft with a focus on using natural materials. With over 30 years of experience as a professional teacher of fine and performing arts, both in private, public, and magnet schools, Mark travels throughout the country teaching all levels and ages. He teaches regularly for the John C. Campbell Folk School & Arrowmont School of Arts & Crafts, is a member of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, and is currently the director and resident artist for Mountain Heritage Handcraft, located in Blue Ridge, Georgia.
