NATURAL DYE RAINBOWS: ONE POT MAGIC

All levels are welcome. No experience required.

Students Please Bring:

  • Towel
  • Plastic bags (to take dyed fiber home with)
  • Note taking materials.
  • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

Open the door wide to the natural dye experience. If you are new to natural dyeing or a true scientist, enjoy the exploration of the magic inspirations that come out of a dye pot using several chunky natural dye stuffs on homegrown wool yarn all at once. In this hands-on, “anything is good" class, experience one of a kind but related combinations that give colorways fast! Receive handouts describing the details involved in setting up a dye pot for pre-mordanted fleece and yarn, then do a multi-color dye pot. 

All materials are included with a $15 - 45 PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR (base fee or with optional class dyed yarn purchase included.) at the time of the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees. 

About Instructor: Martha began her adventure in spinning at the John C. Campbell Folk School, (founded in 1925), in Brasstown, North Carolina in 1978.  Since 1980 her extended family has included sheep and angora rabbits.  Also a banjo player (since 1973) and known to tell a story or two, Martha's interest in sheep and wool, music and dance, have carried her quite literally and joyfully around the world.  Some say she is a wool nerd, but her sheep say she is outstanding in her field!  Martha became a member of the Southern Highlands Craft Guild in 1988, is currently a Resident Artist at the John C. Campbell Folk School (www.folkschool.org).
