All levels are welcome. No experience required.

Students Please Bring:

  • Magnification- bring your reading glasses (The classroom also has lights with magnification available)
  • Note taking materials.
  • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

Explore the beginning stitch techniques used in surface hand embroidery! We will stitch an 18th c. Inspired Delft Tile Espresso Pot to create a frame-able work of fiber art! We will learn about the tools, materials, and a bit of history around the practice of hand embroidery. This class is for both beginners and experienced stitchers.

An additional fee for materials provided by your instructor for this workshop is estimated at $15.00 THIS FEE IS PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

About Instructor: Sarah Roberts loves sharing the knowledge of needle, thread, and fabric. She believes learning to embroider assists in developing life skills and challenges us to explore our personal & collective histories. Sarah has been studying and teaching surface hand embroidery for over a decade. While mostly self-taught, she was thankful to hone her technical skills with San Francisco School of Needlework & Design’s professional training program in 2023 & 2024.

Sarah’s embroidered work has been published online and in print for international and local Atlanta magazines. She has donated work to non-profit fundraisers. And her commission pieces have enhanced family heirlooms and been gifted to celebrities. Sarah lives in East Atlanta Village with her husband, two teens, and two kitties.  She holds a BA in History from Agnes Scott College and has experience as a classroom teacher as well as in school administration. She is an active member of the Atlanta Chapter of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America and the International Organization of Lace, Inc.
