Olive's Porch believes that the classes, experiences, and skills we offer play a meaningful role in everyone's well-being. To make them as accessible as possible, our workshops are offered at three pricing levels, so each participant can choose the rate that feels right for them.

Tuition is a Sliding Scale Choose What Rate Fits for You:

·        Sponsorship $175 - For those who have enough to share

·        Standard $125 - Reflects the standard cost for this workshop

·         Scholarship $75 - For folks who would not have access to this workshop without sponsorship

Ages: Adult (18 and Up)

All levels are welcome. No experience required.

Location: This workshop takes place on the John C. Campbell Folk School Campus in the Harvest Room Studio. It is number 8 on the  Campus Map

Students Please Bring:

  • Your writing tools and note taking materials (pen, pencils, paper etc.)
  • Laptop computer (ideal for printing work that we will be sharing)
  • The Folk School has a computer lab equipped with 4 rather new Macs with Microsoft Word for shared student use, along with a printer/copier with wi-fi connection. If you plan to use a school computer, you must bring a storage device (flash drive) to save your work.
  • If you prefer to bring your laptop, you may (especially if you're used to PCs vs. Macs). Please have complete knowledge on how to use it. Remember to bring your computer accessories.
  • Paper & toner are provided in the studio for photocopies for class critiques. There is no Folk School materials fee, unless large volumes are copied.
  • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle.

Stretch your potential as you explore creative nonfiction and fiction writing. Find inspiration in examples from each genre and create your own work. Discuss best practices when workshopping and practicing giving and receiving constructive and supportive comments. Return home to your writing desk with a refreshed reading list and caring, specific feedback to apply to your own writing. All levels welcome.

Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

About Instructor: Rosemary Royston, artist and poet, is the author of Second Sight (2021, Kelsay Press) and Splitting the Soil (Finishing Line Press, 2014). She resides in the northeast Georgia mountains with her family.
