Students Please Bring:

  • Hand strength & dexterity is needed for this workshop.
  • Carving knives will be provided by the instructor.
  • Students who have a cut glove should bring them, instructor has limited supply to borrow.
  • Note taking materials.
  • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

Learn how to carve a small Dala Horse from the Scandinavian tradition originating from the Dalarna Province of Sweden. These horses were so popular at one point that they were used as a form of currency! Learn how to carve the horse form, embellish with basic chip carving and finish with milk paint. We will be covering basic figure carving techniques, simple chip carving techniques, and milk paint application and finish. Students should expect to leave with at least one finished project, with room to make multiple with time permitting.

An additional fee for materials provided by your instructor for this workshop is estimated at $25.00 THIS FEE IS PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.
