About Instructor: Delia lives off-grid in the Unicoi mountains, where she is working towards a handmade life. She gathers wild food and medicine, sews clothes, carves wooden utensils, plays traditional music, heats with a wood stove, is building a treehouse with wood from the forest, and her main work is weaving baskets. She directs a non-profit organization, co-founded with her partner Joel Fian, called School of the Greenwood, through which she teaches basketry courses for adults, and leads camps for children focused on sharing traditional skills and crafts through theatrical storytelling and role play. Delia participated in the Traditional Craft Mentorship in White Oak Basketry at the John C. Campbell Folk School as well as the South Arts Emerging Traditional Artist Grant Program. She has studied hazel basketry in Romania and willow work in Ireland with traditional weavers and will be teaching bark weaving this year in the UK. She has written a book, Foraged Basketry, to be published by Bloomsbury this September 2026. Learn more at deliafian.com.
