Make a fancy hand broom and put the fun in functional! Using a modern variation of traditional turkey wing whisk construction, make 2 wing brooms into one beautifully spread split tail whisk, reminiscent of a mermaid’s tail.
We will use 18th century techniques and just our hands and feet to make this sturdy, long lasting artfully crafted hand sweeper.
Experience needed: Some hand strength and coordination are required as students will be using a foot treadle to make their brooms.
Students Please Bring:
- Students should be familiar with using a foot treadle and be able to maintain tension while creating a hand broom.
- Apron or clothes that can get dirty.
- Note taking materials.
- (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.
