Students Please Bring:
- Apron or clothes that can get dirty.
- Note taking materials.
- (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.
In this class, students will learn the basics of split white oak basket weaving. They will complete a small muffin basket featuring an embellishment of three rows of colored reed. The instructor will guide students through each step, from preparing materials to finishing techniques. No prior experience is necessary, just bring your creativity!
An additional fee for materials provided by your instructor for this workshop is estimated at $35.00 THIS FEE IS PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

About Instructor: Reta Hogsed has over 40 years of experience in basket weaving. She has been deeply rooted in the traditional Southern Appalachian style, while also bringing her own creative interpretation to each piece. Reta enjoys working in a variety of styles, including Nantucket baskets, split white oak baskets, and double-walled designs. Her passion lies in preserving traditional basketry techniques and passing them on to others. Over the years, Rita has had the opportunity to teach at local community colleges and for various groups, sharing both the skills and the joy of basket weaving. Rita loves helping others discover the satisfaction of creating something beautiful and functional with their own hands.
