    All levels are welcome. No experience required. Some hand strength and coordination is required as students will be using a foot treadle to make their brooms. 

    Students Please Bring:

    • Note taking materials.
    • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

    Inspired by the Japanese sans whisk design, our class will explore this unique Asian style of broom construction, as well as how to use 18th century techniques to construct these beautiful hand tools without the use of any machinery. Several sizes and styles of whisk brooms will be made, and students will have the know-how to continue on their own. All materials and decor items for making 2 brooms (12" & 20"), will be supplied. Some hand strength and coordination is required as students will be using a foot treadle to make their brooms. 

    An additional fee for materials provided by your instructor for this workshop is estimated at $50.00 THIS FEE IS PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

    About Instructor: Max (Mark) Hendry is a full-time artisan and instructor of historic handcraft, specializing in brooms & basketry, with a focus on working with natural, ecologically harvested, renewable materials. With decades of experience as a professional teacher of fine and performing arts in private, public, and magnet schools, Max travels across the country, teaching all levels and ages of students from beginner to advanced, ages 3 to 93. He is director and resident artist for Mountain Heritage Handcraft located in the mountains of North Georgia.
