Tuition: $85.00
Ages: 12 and Up, Minors must have a parent or guardian signed up for the same workshop and present throughout in order to participate.
Experience Level: Students must be advanced beginners- comfortable with rotary cutting, sewing with accurate 1/4 inch seam allowance, and know basic quilting.
Students Please Bring:
- Note taking materials.
- Students will need to supply their own fabric and threads. Instructor will contact registered students prior to workshop with fabric and thread requirements.
- (Optional) You’re welcome to bring your favorite sewing machine. Olive’s Porch does have sewing machines (irons & boards, rotary cutters & mats). If you would like to use a Janome machine or Olive’s Porch tools, please let us know ahead of time.
- (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.
Come see for yourself why rag quilts are all the rage! These beginner friendly quilts are easy to make with their ‘quilt-as-you-go’ construction. Rag quilts make perfect gifts for babies, kids, teens and adults – OR make one for yourself! In fact, this workshop is open to youth as well, sign up you and your 12+ year old and enjoy a creative experience together. This Using soft and cuddly flannel, rag quilts’ frilly seams make them both attractive and pleasant to the touch. Lightweight blankets are made using two layers or flannel, or add more layers for a heavier and warmer blanket. Learn to make any size from baby blanket to king size.
There will be a 1- hour lunch break. Bring a sack lunch or explore local dining options.

Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

About Instructor: Jan Jolly has been quilting since 1979. She moved to Brasstown from Asheville, NC in 2022 and lives just up the road from the Folk School. Jan entered her first international quilt show in 1999, winning 2nd place for best use of color. Her quilting has been published several times in “Quick Quilts Magazine.” Over the years, she has designed and completed hundreds of quilts from simple to advanced heirlooms. Jan’s quilts, and her personality, are vibrant and infused with joy and love. In addition to quilting, she also loves crocheting and gardening.
