Sew Your Own Cross-Body Bag with 2 Pockets!

Ages: 15 and Up, Minors will need to have a parent or guardian registered for the same workshop and present throughout in order to participate.

Developing basic sewing skills, participants will sew a cross-body bag/purse with an inner patch pocket, and an outer slip pocket. Purse is lined in contrasting fabric and has a matching fabric or webbing strap. Purse can be embellished in several ways depending on participants' wishes and skill level. Students can supply their own fabric or select from instructor's stash.

There will be a 1-hour lunch break. Bring a sack lunch or explore local dining options.

Experience Needed: This workshop is a good fit for confident beginners. Students should be familiar with a sewing machine, able to sew in straight lines, wind a bobbin and thread a machine. If you’ve already taken an “Intro to Sewing” workshop with us, you’re all set!

Students Please Bring:

• Two contrasting cotton fabrics & matching thread.
• Fabric for the outside of the bag should be heavier weight such as denim, upholstery fabric, or very lightweight canvas.
• Inside (lining) fabric should be regular weight cotton or poly/cotton blend in a contrasting color.
• Students may purchase a kit with fabrics and thread from the instructor for $10.  Students will need to contact Olive's Porch via email or phone no later than one week prior to the workshop date to request a kit.   
• Any special embellishments (buttons, rickrack, appliques, sequins, etc.) you wish to use. You could also bring a quilt block or sections of embroidery, lace handkerchiefs etc. to embellish the flap.   
• Patterns for the participants to take home and use again will be provided, along with written instructions. Web strapping for 2 purses in the student's choice of colors will be provided by the instructor. These items are included in the $5 materials fee.
• Contact Olive’s Porch if you have questions regarding the materials needed for the workshop and we can get you in contact with the instructor.
• Note taking materials.
• (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

An additional fee for materials provided by your instructor for this workshop is estimated at $5.00 - 15.00. THIS FEE IS PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. **If you purchase a kit of materials prior to the workshop, this fee will be reduced to $5.00** Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.
