**This workshop is for Experienced Beginners: Students should have experience and be comfortable using a sewing machine, be able to cut fabric accurately using a rotary cutter and be able to use scissors to hand cut out their leaves.**
Students Please Bring:
- Fabric (Batiks work best, or a tightly woven regular quilting fabric)
- Your sewing machine (Optional) Olive’s Porch has Janome sewing machines to lend.
- Thread
- Fine sharpie
- 6 1/2” square ruler
- 6 by 22” ruler
- Rotary cutter (some available to borrow from Olive’s Porch)
- Sharp scissors (Some available to borrow from Olive’s Porch)
- Note taking materials.
- (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.
Let's have some fun and learn to make a beautiful tea leaf quilt using fusible interfacing and machine applique. Bring your favorite fabric scraps - Batiks work best because of their tight weave, but regular quilting fabric will work too. We will hand cut the leaves using acrylic templates and applique them onto background fabric. Use your creativity to create your own design or just be random like the quilt pictured.
Upon completion of the class, students should be proficient at making tea leaf blocks - knowing the best interfacing for this project, and how to cut and applique them. The number of blocks each student makes depends on the size of the template they choose. If a 4" template is used, there is enough interfacing provided to students to make 60 tea leaves, which would make a 24" square wall hanging or 18 X 30" table runner. They can continue to make blocks at home to make whatever size piece they choose. For a multicolored quilt like my example, scraps in many colors are desired - 12 1/2" square pieces in ten different colors would be a good starting point - more if they have it available.
There will be a 1-Hour lunch break. Please bring a sack lunch or explore local dining options.
