Weave your own unique Williamsburg basket with colorful accents or natural colors. Based on the traditional colonial design, this sturdy basket was often used for gathering vegetables, flowers, and eggs. The basket includes a sturdy square base with a wide, curved handle that is comfortable to carry on the forearm. The finished basket measures 7 inches by 7 inches square at the base with a 12-inch diameter top opening. (7 inches from base to top of weaving and 12 inches tall with handle)

There will be a 1-hour lunch break. Bring a sack lunch or explore local dining options.

Experience needed: All levels are welcome. No experience required.

Students Please Bring:

  • Note taking materials.
  • (Optional) A snack and/or water bottle. Filtered water is available in the classroom.

An additional fee for materials provided by your instructor for this workshop is estimated at $60.00. THIS FEE IS PAYABLE TO THE INSTRUCTOR at the time of the workshop. Material fees may change depending on the number of participants and price of materials at the workshop. *Payment by cash or check is required for materials fees.

About Instructor: Pattie started basket weaving in 1993 and began teaching her friends soon after. She operated Aunt Pattie's Basketry Shop for three years and became a charter member of the Georgia Basketry Association, serving as president at one point. But Pattie soon realized that teaching was her true passion. She has been a Folk School instructor since 2003 and from 2010 - 2021 served as the school's Resident Artist for Basketry, Brooms, & Chair Seats. Since joining the Folk School staff, she has expanded her talents into many other fields, including beading and blacksmithing.
